We ask questions:
- When will my baby’s first tooth appear?
- Will it hurt?
- Should I use toothpaste?
- How much?
- Which brush is best?
We ask for tips to help guide us to be better carers.
Be reassured – there is no better person to ask than a trained professional, which is why your SpaDental surgery will welcome your baby.
Your baby’s first dental appointment
Usually, baby teeth come through at around six months, and tooth-brushing routines established then will help to protect your child’s oral health for life. We strongly recommend that babies are brought into the surgery when their first tooth appears, but before their first birthday.
Too often, a toddler’s first experience at the dentist is to treat pain caused by tooth decay that could have been prevented. But if you take your baby to the dentist, you will receive the best advice on tooth care, recommendations that will protect your baby’s teeth and mouth, as well as helping your baby get used to the unfamiliar faces and equipment.
Unfortunately, even a baby’s teeth are vulnerable to knocks. If there is an emergency, caused by a fall or an accident, if your baby has to visit the dentist and is familiar with the surgery, the experience will be less traumatic.
And you don’t have to wait until your baby even has a first tooth. If you’re coming to the surgery for a routine check, bring your baby along with someone to help out while you’re in the chair!
Do give your surgery a call to ask about baby tooth care and ask for an appointment for your baby on one of our Children’s Days.
SpaDental is dedicated to preventive care: we want to help your baby sooner, rather than fix problems later!
