Dental implants may be your best solution!
Replace missing or broken teeth for a beautiful, confident smile.
The initial setting of the titanium implant is an important foundation for your treatment. Recovery takes a little time as the area around the implant must heal. Good aftercare is important, so please follow the directions given by your dentist!
As a helpful reminder, here are some implant aftercare tips
Pain Management
- The local anaesthetic used during the procedure will take a few hours to wear off.
- Until the numbness in your mouth is gone, don’t chew food, or drink hot drinks. You don’t want to bite your tongue or burn your mouth.
- Talk to your dentist about pain medication for when the local anaesthetic wears off. Often, over-the-counter tablets are sufficient. In some cases your dentist may provide you with a prescription for something stronger.
- Be sure to closely follow instructions when taking medication. And if you are given antibiotics, be sure to finish the course prescribed.
Eating
- Take care chewing right after your implant procedure to avoid putting pressure on the sensitive area while it heals.
- Avoid hard or sticky foods, such as nuts or toffee, until your dentist says it’s okay to eat them.
Oral Hygiene
It’s important to maintain good oral hygiene before, during and after the entire process.
- Brush and floss regularly in the areas of your mouth that are not near your implant site.
- Don’t brush the implant site or dressing directly after the procedure but gently use a mouthwash prescribed by your dentist the day after to keep the area clean.
- You can begin lightly brushing the dental implant area after two weeks, though you should take care not to disturb your healing gums.
