Interdental Brushes-my recommendation by Thomas Wardiell

Cleaning in between our teeth is highly important as half (yes, that’s 50%!) of our teeth surfaces are there.

Interdental brushes are the solution!

Toothbrushes don’t clean very well in the areas between our teeth, which is a problem. We all know that Dentists and Dental Hygienists always recommend cleaning in between our teeth every single time we brush.

The problem is: how can we do it well?

The answer: pick up some interdental brushes!

Here at SpaDental Plymouth we recommend using an interdental brush before a normal toothbrush. It will remove the bacteria between our teeth before brushing normally.

Interdental brushes can have a narrow head, like a small bottle-brush, or some are more like rubber covered tooth-picks. They are designed to be easy to hold, and many people find interdental brushes easier to use than floss or tape. Other people like to use a combination of both!

Once we’ve used the interdental brush then we should clean the rest of our teeth and mouth. When we’ve finished, we spit out the excess toothpaste but we don’t rinse as what remains leaves a protective coating on our teeth. Ideally, that means we shouldn’t eat or drink anything for at least thirty minutes afterwards.

We have a number of different brands of interdental brushes for sale here at the practice. We stock Stocard Icon interdental brushes, Oral B floss, and the plastic-rubber TePe easy picks, which are a great way to start cleaning in between teeth as they are very gentle on the gums.
