World Cancer Day is a day we should remember. It’s a day for taking action!
So now you’ve remembered the importance of today, there are two things to do right away:
- Put yourself first: remember the checks you need to do? Take a moment to make the appointments, for yourself and your immediate family. Early diagnosis really can be the difference between life and death. So help the people you love to get their checks done, and don’t neglect your own.
- Decide what you can do to help others: cancer is on the increase world-wide. Funding both research and care makes a difference. Whether it’s dropping used belongings into a skip at the supermarket, or making an on-line gift, donations of any sort help. You can donate to the World Cancer Research Fund International through this link. Or support people with cancer, through organisations like St Luke’s and Macmillan‘s. It is often possible to volunteer your time to help these charities too.
Remember World Cancer Day – it’s a good time to start some life-style changes
- exercise for 30 minutes every day
- maintain a healthy body weight
- avoid sugary drinks, high calorie products and alcohol
- eat veggies, fruit, pulses and grains
- avoid processed meat products and limit red meat
- breast feed babies
As part of a regular check up, your SpaDental dentist will check the soft tissues of your mouth and lips for signs of oral cancer.
Lip and oral cancer is the 15th most common type. In men, it is the 11th most common, while in women it’s the 17th most common, according to research cited from 2012 on the World Cancer Day website.
