My name is Sian Cowper. And for me, dental nursing is more than a profession – it’s a way of life!
So much of a nurse’s personality and enthusiasm goes into the job. As the dental nurse team leader here, I think it’s important everyone knows we love our work!
As a qualified dental nurse, I work alongside dentists and therapists.
Being one of the dental team, I am able to constantly learn and grow within my role. I’m proud to be helping our trainee nurses to learn too. Group work is so important and no two days are the same. Our work is always challenging, but we must keep calm under pressure. And our patients must always come first.
As the dental nurse team leader, I know how important it is for us to work together.
My contribution ensures we operate in an efficient, happy and professional atmosphere. It’s important to maintain an effective and safe working environment for myself and my team, in accordance with the GDC requirements. Our team is willing to do anything within our scope of practice so that we can provide our patients with the best service.
While I’m enjoying my new position, I’m also motivated and determined to take on new challenges. I’ll enrol on additional courses so that I can take impressions, deliver oral health advice and radiography. New professional development opportunities are exciting to me as there is so much opportunity to develop new skills that are patient focused. My next step is to become a dental therapist.
I want a job that is challenging, that will stretch my limits and constantly make me learn.
Through my work so far, I’ve been lucky to work with people of all ages and abilities, in a variety of different settings. I’ve seen the positive effect nurses have on people. There are times when I find my job intense and exhausting but it allows me to grow as a person and improve as a professional.
