All part of a day’s work – dental nurse training

Jo Roberts, a dental nurse training with SpaDental Whitchurch says, “I’m having a brilliant time!”

We expect a dental practice to be a busy place, with a lot going on.

Jo explains how much happens in the dental therapist’s surgery in just one afternoon:

“When I was with Jess, our hygiene and dental therapist, I watched her perform four hygiene examinations on patients of different ages. It was really interesting to see how she relates to the patients, and cleans all their teeth. The dental nurse was really helpful too, as she was showing me what she needs to set up for the therapist to perform the examination. Then, after the examination, the nurse cleaned and sterilised all the instruments ready for the next patient.

I also watched Jess perform two fillings on two different aged children – one older and one younger. She also did a third filling on an adult. Jess let me stand very close to her so I could see exactly how she was doing them. The dental nurse also showed me how she made the different fillings up.

The whole process is so interesting. In just one afternoon, I could see how much our dental therapist and nurse have to do to prepare and follow up, as well as doing the treatments. I’m very pleased to be part of the team and I’m enjoying my training. I can’t wait to get into surgery again to learn more!”

Dental nurse training is a great way to begin a career in dentistry.

Jo Roberts made the switch from a career in education and is loving the new challenges and learning experience.

With a dental nurse qualification in hand, it’s possible to train as a dental therapist and hygienist, like Jessica Walklate. Other dental nurses decide they enjoy administration, and become practice managers, which was Hannah Parsonage’s chosen career path.

At SpaDental you can have ‘Direct Access‘ to your dental hygienist or therapist.

Although we recommend regular visits to your dentist, there may be times when you just want some help with oral hygiene. You can do that at SpaDental without an appointment with the dentist first.
