Today’s the day to stop smoking and you just have to get through it!
On National No Smoking Day 2018, it’s time to take a deep breath (or twenty!) as it’s the day to stop smoking.
Here are a few bonuses to motivate you through the day:
- Think of how people who matter to you will benefit: They will be healthier because the air around them is cleaner, but most of all they will feel better because you are healthier.
- Visualise yourself in a year’s time: Think of the new you that you’ll become. Improved overall fitness, fresher breath, better skin, healthier mouth and a feeling of well-being.
- Think of what you can do with the cash: There is a saving, if you’re not burning your money.
- Consider the value of the extra time spent with people who matter: No more standing around outside alone in the cold when you can be having warm conversations instead!
- Get distracted: Take deep breaths, drink water, keep your hands busy, or check out friends on social media who are sharing your (temporary)pain.
And remember, if this day to stop smoking is bad, it will get easier with time!
At SpaDental we regularly see the damage that smoking does to people’s teeth.
- Discoloured teeth: if you stop smoking, then a course of tooth-whitening treatment can help to reverse that.
- Gum disease (periodontitis): if you stop smoking the periodontal treatment you have will be more effective. Any tobacco raises you risk of gum disease and associated tooth loss.
- Oral cancer: if you stop smoking, radiation treatment is more effective. Patients with lip and oral cavity cancer risk a secondary cancer developing.
At SpaDental we are dedicated to the overall well-being of our patients. Let us know if we can do anything to help you become a no-smoker.
