- GMC – the General Medical Council, for doctors;
- NMC – the Nursing and Midwifery Council register;
- GPC – the General Pharmaceutical Council for pharmacists in England, Scotland and Wales;
- HCPC – the Health and Care Professions Council regulates health, psychological and social work professionals.
The aim of establishing professional registers is to protect the public.
There are also voluntary registers that aim to protect the public.
As the demand for safe injectable treatment increases, new registers distinguish clinically trained professionals from service providers who may not have adequate training or experience.
To this end, the Joint Council for Cosmetic Practitioners (JCCP) has established a voluntary register with stringent requirements and a Code of Practice.
The JCCP believes: “Many non-medically and medically trained Practitioners are performing treatments that are considered to put patients at risk without the necessary supervision.”
The JCCP is working with the Cosmetic Standards Practice Authority (CPSA) to safeguard people who choose non-surgical cosmetic treatments.
