Are you a Denplan patient?
If you’ve been a Denplan patient for more than a month, you’ll have Denplan Supplementary Insurance cover.
If you’ve signed up in the last couple of weeks, then you will have been asked if you want to take out additional emergency insurance.
Changes to Denplan Supplementary Insurance cover.
To comply with new legislation from the Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD), Denplan Supplementary insurance cover becomes optional from 1st October, 2018.
- New IDD legislation supports consumers.
- Customers now have the right to choose or refuse to pay for clearly itemised insurance add-ons.
Current Denplan Supplementary Insurance cover:
- Up until the end of September, current Denplan patients paid a fixed monthly insurance fee.
- Payment of the insurance fee was mandatory. Simply rolled into the overall monthly cost of the plan.
- The insurance fee entitled Denplan patients to access the 24-hour Worldwide Dental Emergency Helpline.
Changes for Denplan patients to be aware of:
- From 1st October 2018, Denplan patients can choose if they want insurance included in their payment plan.
- Simplyhealth Professionals offers patients the option of purchasing Denplan Supplementary Insurance cover as an additional extra.
- Patients currently paying the mandatory fee who wish to opt out may apply to do so.
- New Denplan patients decide themselves whether or not to add on the insurance charge.
- If you wish to add on insurance at a later date, you may. When Denplan confirms cover with the patient, the insurance begins. Denplan cannot back-date it to cover an accident or injury.
What do I gain if I don’t get Denplan Supplementary Insurance?
- Your right to choose. Insurance is no longer compulsory.
- The monthly Denplan fee will be 60p cheaper ( or a little less if you are on a group scheme).
Good reasons to get Denplan Supplementary Insurance cover:
Patients who add on Denplan Supplementary Insurance cover benefit from:
- cover for emergency dental treatment*,
- emergency phone consultations,
- access to a 24-hour worldwide telephone helpline,
- moreover, it’s not very expensive, and you might regret not having it when it really matters.
*Note: Denplan Care and Denplan Essentials patients are entitled to the same level of emergency care. Plans cover the initial appointment to treat: urgent relief of severe pain, haemorrhage, or swelling; the control of acute infection or a condition which causes a severe threat to general health. Further treatment will be charged according to the patient’s plan.
