One of the problems (I know!) of a large family, is that it can be hard to come up with meaningful choices for everyone. We want to give gifts that show thought and care in choosing. If we leave shopping till the last minute, then often we end up spending more money than we want to on useless, last minute buys. After all, there’s only so many socks a man can wear at any one time.

Well, yes, it might. Especially if it comes totally out of the blue! But think of it as giving the gift of great teeth.
I’m getting a voucher for my daughter to get her teeth whitened. She’s in her early twenties, and had her wisdom teeth out a year ago. All that attention on her mouth left her a bit self-conscious about the colour of her teeth. At her last check-up, she spoke to the dentist about tooth whitening, but can’t really afford it herself. Meanwhile, she’s been spending money on toothpastes that don’t produce the results she wants. And I’m a bit concerned she may turn to some unreliable or home treatment that will hurt her teeth in the long term. So I know she’ll be thrilled with a voucher for tray-whitening. And I’m sure she’ll be smiling more to show off her great teeth as a result.

Make sure it’s on their wish list. Probably it’ll be something they’ve been talking about for a while, but hesitating. Some people don’t like to spend money on themselves, and so will appreciate your present. Others, like my daughter, aren’t earning enough yet and will be more than happy to get something they really want, but haven’t got the readies for.
