Our new patient came across the SpaDental website, and decided to contact the practice. Here she explains to Heather her experience from her initial phone conversation with the receptionist, to planning her treatment with the dentist.
What happens during a new patient appointment?
A first appointment with your new dentist takes more time than a regular check-up does.
During the appointment your dentist will ask a range of questions to assess your general health as well as your oral health. As many people only visit the dentist when they have a problem, don’t worry. Your dentist has seen all kinds of mouth and teeth problems. It’s not the job of a dentist to judge you, but to help you to have a comfortable mouth and healthy teeth.
Your dentist will conduct a thorough and systematic check of your teeth and the soft tissues of your mouth. As well as assessing your gum health for signs of gingivitis or periodontitis, that can lead to tooth loss, your dentist will look for signs of mouth cancer. If work needs to be done as a priority for your health, then you will probably want to begin a course of restorative treatment as soon as possible. After the assessment, therefore, your dentist will discuss a treatment plan to meet any immediate needs. You also have the opportunity to discuss any additional treatments you’re interested in that could enhance your smile.
Private dental care also enables patients to access treatments that are not clinically essential, such as tooth-whitening, veneers or implants. Some of our new patients have attended their regular dentist faithfully, and have healthy teeth. Yet, because they are interested in a new perspective and modern treatments, they approach us to find out more.
