Meet Dentist Aryaan Khalid

Meet dental surgeon Aryaan:
“I became interested in dentistry at a young age when I visited the dentist in London for routine check-ups. I enjoyed my interactive sessions with the dental team. My enthusiasm grew so much that I applied for, and was accepted on, an apprenticeship as a dental assistant.
My initial bachelor’s degree in radiography is very useful – it plays an important role in diagnosing dental and oral concerns. Since I qualified as a dentist from the University of Leeds, I’ve been fortunate to work alongside experienced dentists who have helped me develop clinically and professionally.
During a first appointment I begin with an informal chat to get to know the patient: their past dental history, what’s bothering them, what they would like and what their expectations are. I complete a systematic examination, taking x-rays and photos as needed. Then I draw up a treatment plan in consultation with my patient. It’s always important to discuss all the available options, their pros and cons, the cost and stages of treatment. If the patient decides to proceed with the treatment, I provide a written treatment plan and book all the appointments.
I like restoring oral health and function. It’s very rewarding to improve my patients’ appearance and confidence. I have completed many restorative cases where patients have not been to the dentist for years and have neglected their oral health. For instance, they come to an initial appointment with missing, decayed, painful teeth and gums. I like improving my patients’ overall oral health, not just focusing on one tooth or area. I like saving teeth!
In my spare time I like to keep fit. When I was living in Scotland, I participated in a 10k run. (Editor’s note: actually a “Beast Race” near Loch Ness with steep hills, icy cold water, a lot of mud and 1,800 competitors. Aryaan won the race!) I adopted a stray cat when I was a student in Leeds. He’s called Rudy, and I still look after him.”
