We understand you may have other plans for your half-term holiday. But trust us – if the children haven’t been to the dentist in the last six months, then it’s time to make an appointment!

What if my children are already registered with SpaDental Whitchurch?

If you’re already registered with SpaDental Whitchurch, our dedicated Children’s Days are a great time to bring the children along for their regular check up.

We encourage all our patients to book their next dental appointment before leaving the surgery. But if your children haven’t been to the dentist for over six months, or if you’re not sure when their next appointment should be, give us a call and we’ll keep you on schedule.

We’re always a child-friendly practice, but on Children’s Days we prioritise appointments for children. We’ll help your children to feel comfortable and happy.

If you’re looking for a dentist, we’re currently able to register babies, children and teenagers as NHS dental patients. In line with government initiatives for more children to visit the dentist, we’re prioritising preventive care for children.

Your dentist can help your children to keep healthy teeth for life. Too many children still suffer from tooth-decay, which is 95% avoidable. Effective dental care prevents unnecessary fillings and extractions.

Please note: For adults seeking dental care, we suggest asking the practice about becoming a plan patient to cover the cost of regular dental checks. Dental plans encourage preventive dental care and can reduce the need for more costly treatments.

Advice and care given during NHS children’s appointments

During the appointment the dentist checks for overall dental health and offers advice and care in these three main areas:

• Oral hygiene advice to reduce the presence of bacteria, through brushing and flossing.
• Dietary advice to reduce sugars so that bacteria have nothing to metabolise.
• Treatment and advice to strengthen dental enamel, through the use of fluoride toothpaste, mouthwashes, and varnishes.

We’d like to see as many young people over half-term as we can!

Keeping our teeth healthy – the 3 essentials:

• Brush all the surfaces of our teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste, especially last thing at night.
• Eat healthy food, low in sugar, fat and salt.
• Make regular visits to the dentist.

The earlier we learn to take good care of their teeth, the better chance we have of keeping our teeth healthy. We’re here to help!

Why is NHS care for children so good?

If you are 18* or younger, the NHS covers the cost of your dental treatment. That means you don’t have to pay anything for your visit to SpaDental Whitchurch, whether you just have an examination, or you need to have treatment.

• Children under 16 will need a parent or guardian to get in touch to make an appointment.
• If you’re a teenager of 18 or under but over 16, then you can make your own appointment.
