SpaDental Tewkesbury welcomes current, new and referred patients wishing for straighter teeth to book an orthodontic consultation.

Begin with an orthodontic consultation

We’re pleased to inform you that dentist Rachel Williams is available to see patients on Tuesdays. She offers a range of private orthodontic options suitable for both adults and children. An initial orthodontic consultation includes:

The charge for a one hour orthodontic consultation is £150. If the patient goes ahead with the proposed orthodontic plan, the consultation charge is discounted from the treatment cost.

Patients also ask:

What treatments are there?

Many dentists these days are offering adults and teenagers treatment with a series of clear aligners. For some people, however, fixed braces are still the most effective solution. During an orthodontic consultation, Rachel will determine which method, or combination of appliances, will achieve the best possible result.

Rachel works with clear aligners, removable appliances and conventional fixed braces, independently or in combination. It is worth noting that both modern aligners and conventional appliances necessitate the use of a clear retainer after the treatment. Rachel’s experience and versatility enables her to work out a system to effectively move teeth into their optimum position.

Who needs private orthodontic treatment?

Children

Not all teenagers qualify for NHS orthodontic treatment as an IOTN assessment is necessary. Children assessed as Scale 4 or 5 with “severe degrees of irregularity” or “severe dental health problems” are eligible. A few borderline cases from Scale 3 are also assessed on a different aesthetic scale. However, there is a high demand for treatment so opportunities are limited.

Children on Scale 3, therefore, will usually be turned down for treatment, although they have “greater irregularities”. Even children who score a 2 on the IOTN scale will have “minor” irregularities, such as slightly protruding upper teeth or minor reversal.

If your child is not approved for NHS treatment, then you may want to consider private treatment.

Adults

An increasing number of adults are choosing to have private orthodontic treatment.

Some adults may have aesthetic concerns, especially if they didn’t have orthodontic treatment as a teenager. Visual images of people with perfect teeth surround us these days so it’s understandable. Moreover, as teeth shift their positions slightly throughout our lives, a minor irregularity may appear more pronounced as years pass.

Orthodontic treatment is also an effective step during dental restoration work. For a patient considering crowns, bridges or veneers, orthodontics can enhance the finished result.

Having a healthy smile (and straight teeth) helps convey an aura of confidence and physical well-being. In addition to looking more pleasing, it is easier to keep well-aligned teeth clean. Moreover, straighter teeth wear more evenly and are less prone to damage.
