We want to help you protect your children’s oral health with regular appointments.
Children’s oral health appointments
If you have a child or children registered with SpaDental, please book them a routine appointment if it’s overdue.
We strongly recommend you make an appointment for your baby, toddler, or child to visit the dentist if they haven’t seen their dentist recently.
SpaDental practices try to support your child’s oral health by offering appointment times after school, and during half-term breaks and holidays. Don’t leave it too long if you think your child needs a routine dental appointment, or has a concern you’d like us to check.
Protecting children’s oral health is a priority.
Preventive dental care is so important.
Words from the Chief Dental Officer for England, Sara Hurley, and The NHS National Clinical Director for Children, Simon Kenny, remind us of all why children’s oral health is important.
“Poor oral health doesn’t just impact on a child’s mouth – it damages their confidence, their ability to socialise and their education. Parents and guardians have to miss work because their child is in pain, or they have to go to the dentist or hospital to have an extraction.”
SpaDental supports children’s oral health by:
- promoting dental check ups before baby’s first birthday,
- educating children and families on tooth brushing and a healthy diet,
- promoting high impact interventions, such as fluoride.
Public Health England (PHE) advice:
Visiting the dentist:
- Take your child to see the dentist as soon as their teeth start to appear, and
visit regularly, as often as your dentist recommends. - Ask your dentist about fluoride varnish – all children over 3 years should have
this applied to their teeth. If younger children are at particular risk of tooth
decay the dentist may apply to their teeth. - NHS dental treatment is free for children under 18 or under 19 and in
qualifying full-time education.

Please note: Not all SpaDental practices have a contract for NHS funded appointments. Our private-only practices do, however, offer reasonably priced private dental plans. Practices with an NHS contingent prioritise children and keep waiting lists.
