Your smile kit – the ultimate packing list

At this time of the year, our thoughts turn to holidays. Now we’re able to travel once again, and countries around the world are welcoming tourists back, perhaps you’re wondering what you need to pack. If you are, here’s our ultimate packing list to keep your smile in place while you’re away.

The ultimate packing list for dental care away from home

1 – A toothbrush goes without saying! When you’re packing it’s worth checking the bristles aren’t worn. If they are, we recommend you buy a new brush. Whether your brush is electric or manual, the head should be changed every three months.

2 – Don’t forget the charger to go with your electric toothbrush, and it’s worth checking if you need a universal adaptor.

3 – Toothpaste and mouthwash are still subject to the security restrictions on the quantity of fluids and pastes you can carry in your hand luggage. If you’re travelling light, you can always pick up new supplies once you’ve cleared security checks. We recommend using products that contain fluoride to help condition tooth enamel.

4 –  Dental floss and/or interdental brushes are easy to fit into hand luggage, and really are an essential piece of your kit.

5 – A night guard, if you use one. Whether you wear it to prevent tooth grinding, or snoring, it can certainly help you or your partner get a better night’s sleep. If you’re going on a sporting trip, don’t forget your gum shield.

7 – Fixative and cleaner for removable appliances. Your dentist usually recommends products when fitting the appliance. If you’re in doubt, then it’s best to ask your dentist for advice to keep your appliance in good condition.

6 – Temporary filling material can be a useful addition to a first-aid kit. You can purchase it from all good chemists, and it can help prevent sensitivity if a filling falls out until you can see your dentist.

7 – Dental Plan details for monthly subscribers. If you have a dental emergency while you’re away, check if you have worldwide cover included in your plan. It’s advisable to use the emergency contact details to check your provision before you embark on any expensive outlays. For the cover offered while you’re away from home, having a dental plan could be one of the best decisions you make.
