National Smile Month 2023 runs from 15 May to 15 June, led by the Oral Health Foundation, to promote the benefits of having a healthy smile.
Every year National Smile Month raises awareness of important health issues that affect not only our smile, but general health too. The campaign is supported by dentists everywhere. After all, we want to put a smile on everybody’s face:)
Did you know:
A smile is the most universally recognised human facial expression.
- It’s not possible to fake a genuine smile.
- We can spot a real smile because it shows in the muscles at the outer corner of the eye.
- The act of smiling lifts our mood – so smile anyway!
- If you want a promotion, smile.
- Smiling really is contagious!
So why don’t we smile all the time?
There are reasons why we may hold back a smile:
- Smiling may give the wrong professional or social message.
- There are times when a smile would not be appropriate because smiling suggests happiness.
- And sometimes we stop smiling because we feel self-conscious about our teeth.
National Smile Month 2023 recommends these key actions for a healthy smile:
- Brush your teeth last thing at night and at one other time during the day.
- Brush your teeth with a fluoride toothpaste.
- Brush your tongue.
- Clean in between your teeth everyday with interdental brushes or floss.
- Use a mouthwash every day.
- Cut down how much and how often you have sugar.
It is important to visit a dentist every six months?
Yes, it’s important to see a dentist who will tailor a programme to suit your personal needs. They will recommend how often you need to visit.
- Regular hygiene visits remove plaque build up for healthy teeth and gums.
- Dental check-ups help to identify problems before they become major issues.
- Your dentist can suggest treatments that will help you feel more confident.
People also ask about monthly payment plans to:
- Help spread the cost of routine private care
- Invest in your oral health.
