Abel Adeosun qualified as a dentist from the University of Ibadan in 2013. He is currently recognised by the General Dental Council (GDC) as a dental therapist. Abel is waiting for an opportunity to take his ORE examinations and register as a dentist in England.
Abel has eight years experience working as a dentist in his home country, providing a wide range of preventive and curative treatments to his patients. His work in teaching hospitals means he has been involved in a wide range of dental activity, from teaching oral hygiene students to managing emergencies and oral trauma.
A dental therapist’s skill
Dental therapists support patients’ oral hygiene and deliver some dental treatments too. A key role of a therapist is to work with patients to establish regular oral hygiene appointments and effective at-home routines promoting healthy gums. This means therapists are a great asset to the dental team and can play an important role encouraging children to keep their teeth healthy.
With two lovely daughters, aged three and one, Abel is used to engaging with children and likes helping them understand the importance of tooth brushing.
Within his therapist’s scope of practice, Abel can place fillings, extract primary teeth, and deliver tooth whitening prescribed by a dentist.

Patient care is at the heart of his work
To form long-term partnerships with his patients, Abel prioritises positive communication with his patients. He encourages patients to ask questions and enjoys sharing his oral health knowledge.
Since arriving in England in 2021, Abel has gained a Masters degree in Public Health from the University of Chester. During this time, he also assisted residents in a care home with their oral health, and was a firm favourite for his thoughtfulness and calm manner.
