Telephone contact

Since the dental practice has been taken over by Spa Dental I have found it impossible to get though to the surgery by telephone. I have had to leave work early to call into the practice in person to make any amendments to appointments. My last appointment was during an evening. There were two receptionists working (both very friendly). While I was waiting the phone did not ring at all. When I got home I decided I would like to change a follow up appointment I had just made. I tried to ring and could not get through at all. I think the telephone system is flawed and not fit for purpose. I have also previously received an email reminding me about an appointment on the same day as receiving a text cancelling the appointment and then been unable to speak to anyone about it over the telephone!

Several dentists several visits still not sorted

Over the past several months I’ve seen 4 different dentists

1, took tooth out thinking it would solve the problem, it didn’t.

2. Took out old filling and replaced with new on next tooth along thinking it would solve the problem, it made it 100 times worse.

3. Took that new filling out and then dressed it temporarily, this over several weeks calmed it down and this dentist seemed very interested and genuinely concerned he sent me to the doctors to get checked for something else doctors put me on a course of drugs for Trigemenal neuralgia after a few weeks doctor didn’t think I had this medication wasn’t agreeing me etc had to come back to dentist but the previous dentist I saw was only a locum so couldn’t see him

4. Dentist literally went straight to say root canal needed even though locum dentist before said he wouldn’t want to do that as it’s a last resort, we gave it a couple more weeks the pain comes and goes went back to dentist he didn’t mention root canal this time just that he would take out half the temp dressing and put filling over top, thinking this would solve problem… it hasn’t and now I’m stuck with tooth ache again ( it’s never been right since I first went!) I’ve lost faith in the dentists as seen so many in short space of time and thoroughly confused as to what is wrong or how to fix it.

Dental hygiene

In the past the dentist provided a descale and polish service at the original appointment but now I have to make a separate appointment to see the hygienist. This is an additional cost and another visit to the dentist.

Broken tooth

I broke a pre-molar and called into the surgery to get an appointment and was advised that the first available was in three weeks’ time, as I was not in pain. The receptionist advised me to purchase a dental repair kit from the chemist, which I did. However, the instructions stated that one should see a dentist within 48 hours, so I tried unsuccessfully to get through to the surgery for advice before using it. Each time I tried I got the answerphone and left my number, requesting a call-back, but I never received a response. I therefore emailed and received a call from the practice manager, who gave me an appointment with a therapist the following week. However, when I arrived for the appointment the therapist explained that, if the repair was to be done under the NHS, i needed to be referred by a dentist – Catch 22! He kindly offered to do the repair for me as a private patient, but only charged me the NHS rate. The repair took 5 minutes.

The ‘ best’ treatment I’ve had from a hygienist

I was informed at each stage

Treated with respect and not patronised

The hygienist also completed a small filling

Unhappy

Two things I been unhappy with now for a few year.

1. I believe that in the check up price I’m meant to have a scale and polish (Which I’ve never receive in the time I’ve been a NHS books.

2. I feel that having to pay for your treatment before you have had the appointment is wrong and rude. Especially then you have to wait months for that appointment.

my experience with the surgery has been very good

I have never had any concerns with appointments, visits, treatments etc at this dental practice. .

The only query I have is the length of time there is to wait for an appointment & the fact your total bill has to be paid well in advance before treatment on NHS has finished.

A total of 10 months paid in advance before the next appointment was given & we were told this was the next available appointment …

The dental practice had a bill paid 10 monthso in advance.

*Editor’s note: Thank you for your kind appreciation and helpful feedback. When SpaDental took over the practice, the new practice manager realised the need to reduce waiting times. SpaDental has increased hours of dentists’ time to accommodate patients sooner and shorten waiting times between appointments.

Adrian is top man.

Will only use Adrian, as have used another person there in an emergency, but was very dissatisfied in the way i was treated.

I have recently had 2 appointments on the trot cancelled, without any explanation, i hope this was a one off and not the norm.

Service is normally 100% thank you.

Reception and receptionist

In the Saltash branch the high desk is not welcoming at all and the […] receptionist is almost hidden.

The receptionist[…] does the job adequately but almost makes you feel like you’re a severe bother […] for attending. I find the dentists and staff a pleasure to be treated by.
