If, for example, you have underlying health concerns that require specialist attention, or your needs are such that they need significant intervention, then your general dentist may refer you to a specialist.
If children are referred to a specialist, it is usually because they need specialist orthodontic treatment.
Your clinician will recognise your needs and always take the time to explain the reason for your referral, discuss your treatment plan and the costs involved.
